How to pay for a taxi in Orange County (2026): Apple Pay, Google Pay, card, cash

Premium Tesla Taxi takes payment through Square, the same processor used by tens of thousands of small US businesses. There are six ways to settle a ride, and the fare is identical on all six — the flat fare quoted before you confirm is what you pay, with no surcharge for choosing a card or a wallet.

This guide lists each method, how quickly it clears, and which one to pick in which situation. It is written for rides across Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego, including John Wayne (SNA), LAX, Long Beach (LGB) and San Diego (SAN) airport transfers.

The six payment methods, side by side

Every method below is available on the booking confirmation screen and again from the payment link in your booking email, so you are never forced to decide at the curb.

How to pay with Apple Pay in three taps

1. Finish the booking form and reach the confirmation screen, which shows your reference and the total.

2. Tap the black Apple Pay button at the top of the payment box. It only appears in Safari — Apple does not expose Apple Pay to Chrome, Edge or Firefox, even on an iPhone or a Mac.

3. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. The screen updates to "Paid in full" and a receipt email with a PDF is sent within a minute.

If the Apple Pay button is not visible, the usual reason is the browser rather than the card. Open the same booking link in Safari and it appears. On a Mac with no card in Wallet, add one in System Settings → Wallet & Apple Pay first, or use the card button instead.

How to pay with Google Pay

Google Pay shows as its own button in Chrome and Edge on Android, Windows, macOS and ChromeOS. Tap it, choose the card saved to your Google account, and confirm. As with Apple Pay, the charge is authorised in the page — there is no redirect to a separate site and no card number to type.

How to pay by card on Square

The card button opens a Square-hosted checkout page. Card details are entered on Square's own domain, so the number never touches this website and nothing card-related is stored here. Square runs 3-D Secure verification when your bank asks for it, which is why some cards show a one-time bank prompt.

Every US and international Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB and UnionPay card is accepted. Corporate cards work normally and the emailed PDF receipt is itemised for expense reporting.

How to choose: a decision guide

Use Apple Pay or Google Pay when you are on a phone and want the ride settled in under ten seconds — this is the option that fails least often, because there is nothing to mistype.

Use the card page when you are on a laptop, when the wallet button is missing, or when the card you want to charge is not saved to your device.

Use cash when it is a short local trip and you would rather hand the fare to the driver at the end. Confirm the ride 30 to 60 minutes before pickup so the slot stays held.

Use Zelle, Venmo or PayPal when several passengers are splitting the fare, or for a standing weekly commute arrangement. Ask for details when the booking is confirmed.

When payment is due, and cancellations

Card and wallet payments are taken when you book, which is what holds the exact pickup slot — one car means one booking per time window, with a 30-minute gap either side. Cancelling more than one hour before pickup is free and the full amount is refunded to the same card automatically. Inside one hour, no refund is issued.

If an address is corrected after booking and the fare changes, the difference is handled automatically: a top-up payment link if the new fare is higher, an automatic refund to the same card if it is lower.

Troubleshooting a payment that will not go through

A declined card is almost always the issuing bank blocking an unfamiliar merchant rather than a problem with the booking. Retry once, then use Apple Pay or Google Pay, which authenticates through the device and is treated as lower risk by most banks.

If nothing works, the booking is still held. Message WhatsApp or call and the ride can be switched to cash or to Zelle, Venmo or PayPal in under a minute. Nothing is charged twice — Square is the single processor and every attempt is visible on one booking record.

FAQ

Can I pay for a taxi with Apple Pay in Orange County?

Yes. Premium Tesla Taxi accepts Apple Pay through Square on the booking confirmation screen and from the payment link in the booking email. The Apple Pay button appears in Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and payment is confirmed with Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode in one tap. Apple does not make Apple Pay available in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, so on those browsers you will see Google Pay or the card option instead. The fare is identical whichever method you choose, and a PDF receipt is emailed within a minute of the charge clearing.

Why is the Apple Pay button not showing?

The most common reason is the browser: Apple Pay is only exposed in Safari, so Chrome, Edge and Firefox never show it on any device. The second reason is an empty Wallet — add a card in Settings (iPhone) or System Settings → Wallet & Apple Pay (Mac). If the button appeared and then vanished, reload the payment link once; the wallet row now stays on screen and reserves its own space while the Square SDK loads. You can always pay by card on the Square hosted page instead, at the same price.

Do you charge extra for paying by card?

No. The flat fare quoted before you confirm is the total, and card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, cash, Zelle, Venmo and PayPal all cost exactly the same. Airport extras and child seats, when they apply, are itemised on the quote screen before you pay rather than added afterwards.

When am I charged, and can I get a refund?

Card and wallet payments are taken at booking, which is what reserves the exact pickup time. Cancel more than one hour before pickup and the full amount is refunded automatically to the same card; inside one hour no refund is issued. If a corrected address lowers the fare, the difference is refunded automatically without you asking.

Can I pay cash for a Tesla taxi?

Yes, cash is accepted in the car at the end of the ride for local trips. Choose cash on the booking form and confirm the ride 30 to 60 minutes before pickup by call, WhatsApp or Telegram so the slot stays held.
